At this point, tabbed browsing is still inactive. You will notice that the options "Select new tabs as they are created" and "Always show tab bar" are greyed out and unavailable. These options only exist when tabbed browsing is enabled.
To enable tabbed browsing, check the box to the left of "Enable Tabbed Browsing". At this point, you will notice that the other two options become available. Tabbed browsing has now been activated.
In certain scenarios when a new tab is created (creating new tabs will be detailed later on in this tutorial), Safari will open the new tab but your current tab will remain selected and active. By checking "Select new tabs as they are created", you will force the browser to select and activate that new tab immediately when it is created.
The next menu option, "Always show tab bar", is also unchecked by default. Even with tabbed browsing activated, Safari will not show the tab bar in the browser window at times where only one tab is open. However, with this option checked the tab bar will always be displayed, even if there is only one tab open at the time.
At the bottom of this menu, there are keyboard shortcuts displayed for certain window and tab functions. These shortcuts will vary depending on which options you have selected or deselected.
Once you have selected the options that you want, close the Tabs dialog by clicking the red "X" in the upper left hand side of the window. This will return you to Safari's main window.
