How to Import Bookmarks and Other Data to Opera

If you want to switch from another internet browser to Opera, transferring your bookmarks takes just a few steps. Opera also allows you to transfer your browsing history, saved passwords, cookies, and other personal data. Here's how.

  1. Open Opera and navigate to opera://settings/importData in the address/search bar.

Alternatively, you can get to this pop-up by clicking the Settings icon and typing "import" in the search bar.

  2. A drop-down menu displays all the supported browsers currently installed on your computer. Select the source browser containing the items you wish to import.

  3. Directly under the drop-down menu is all the items that can be imported. To add or remove a check mark from a particular item, simply click on it.

The following items are typically available to import:

    • Browsing history: A record of websites you visited in the past, including page titles and URLs.
    • Favorites/Bookmarks: Saved links.
    • Cookies: Locally stored files used by websites to house user-specific data, preferences, and other browsing session details.
    • Saved passwords: Opera can import your saved passwords so you don't have to remember them when visiting websites.
  4. Alternatively, you can import bookmarks and other personal data from an HTML file you exported from another browser. To do so, select Bookmarks HTML File from the drop-down menu.

  5. Click Import. If you're importing items directly from another browser, you should receive a confirmation message when the process is complete. If you're importing bookmarks from a file, you are prompted to select the file, and then notified when the operation is finished.
