How to Download Web Pages in IE 11

Save a copy of a web page to your hard drive for offline reading in Internet Explorer 11. Depending on the structure of the web page, you may be able to view the saved source code, images, and other multimedia files without an internet connection.

To download web pages in Internet Explorer 11, open a page and follow these steps:

  1. Select the Gear in the upper-right corner of the browser window, and select File > Save As.

Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S to open the Save Webpage dialog box.

  2. In the Save Webpage dialog box, open the destination folder and select the Save as type drop-down menu to choose a format. Your options include:

    • Web Archive, single file (*.mht): Packages the whole page — including images, animations, and media content like audio data — into an MHT file. If the images and other data are removed from the live website, you still have access to what you saved.
    • Webpage, HTML only (*.htm;*html): Saves the text version of the page. Images, audio data, and other content are not saved. These elements are replaced with hyperlinks to the content online. As long as the referenced elements exist online, the HTML page will show those elements.
    • Webpage, complete (*.htm;*html): Saves the text, images, and other elements on the web page for offline use. This option is similar to the MHT option except that it creates separate folders for the images and other elements.
    • Text File (*.txt): Saves only the text data. Images and image placeholders are not saved.
