Manage Passwords and Personal Information

April 2, 2008

Browser: Opera

Platform: Windows

Many web sites request login credentials and other personal information such as name, address, etc. for access purposes, product and service registration, and more. Entering the same information time and time again can become a monotonous and time consuming affair. Many of us are asked to manage a cumbersome amount of names, passwords, and other data. The Opera browser sports a built-in feature called The Wand which handles all of this information for you in an efficient and easy to use manner. Not only does this help organize all of your information but it can also save you a lot of typing. This tutorial explains exactly how to use The Wand in Opera for Windows.

Disable Images

April 1, 2008

Browser: Opera

Platform: Windows

Some web pages contain a large amount of images or a few images of a larger than average size. These pages can take a painstakingly long time to load, especially on slower connections such as dial-up. If you can live without the images, the Opera browser for Windows allows you to disable all of them from loading. In most cases this will speed up page load time significantly. Keep in mind, however, that many web pages render incorrectly when their images are removed and as a result some content may become illegible.

Modify Text Size

March 31, 2008

Browser: Internet Explorer 7

Platform: Windows

The size of the text displayed on web pages within your IE browser may be too small for you to clearly read. On the flip side of that coin, you may find that it is too large for your taste. IE gives you the ability to easily increase or decrease the font size of all text within a page.

Add Options to Instant Search

March 30, 2008

Browser: Internet Explorer 7

Platform: Windows

IE 7 comes with Google as the default engine in its Instant Search box, located in the top right hand corner of the browser window. IE gives you the ability to easily add more search engines by selecting from a predefined list or by adding your own custom choice.

Manage Your Browsing History

March 29, 2008

Browser: Safari

Platform: OS X

Your Web browser keeps a log of web pages that you have visited in the past, with its default settings configured to record a week's worth of browsing history. From time to time you may find it useful to look back through your history in order to revisit a particular site. You may also have the desire to clear this history for privacy purposes. In this tutorial you will learn how to do both of these things.

Create Your Own Toolbar

March 28, 2008

Browser: Firefox

Platform: OS X

The default Firefox toolbar contains standard browser options such as back, forward, refresh, and stop. Those of you who often utilize features such as browsing history and print may want to add these options to your toolbar. Firefox allows such behavior, and it also allows you to create a new toolbar with the options of your choice. This can all be accomplished in just a few minutes through the browser's Customize Toolbar feature.

Import Safari Bookmarks

March 27, 2008

Browser: Opera

Platform: OS X

The browser gives you the ability to import your stored bookmarks from the Safari web browser in a quick and easy manner. Once imported your Safari bookmarks are added, in their own folder, to the bookmarks section of Opera. This tutorial steps you through the importing process.

Disable Audio

March 26, 2008

Browser: Opera

Platform: Windows

Many web pages contain sound effects, music, and other types of audio. Occasionally these sounds are played upon page load while others require user interaction, such as clicking on a link, to be heard. You may want to disable audio from playing in web pages altogether. The Opera browser allows you to do this very easily. This tutorial steps you through the process.

Display the Menu Bar

March 25, 2008

Browser: Internet Explorer 7

Platform: Windows

When you first use IE 7, you may notice one key component missing from your browser window. This is the familiar Menu Bar that contains choices such as File and Edit. In older versions of the browser, this was displayed by default and most of us have grown accustomed to using it. This tutorial will show you how to display IE 7's Menu Bar in just a few easy steps.
