Manage Tabbed Browsing

April 21, 2008

Browser: Firefox 2

Platform: Windows

One of the most convenient features of Firefox 2 is the ability to use tabs. Gone are the days of opening several browser windows at once to accomplish your tasks. Tabbed browsing allows you to achieve a much sleeker, more efficient browsing experience. With tabs, you can open several web pages at once in a single browser window. This will not only clear up clutter on your desktop but will allow you to easily switch back and forth between your open pages. Tabbed browsing in Firefox is enabled by default. You can modify the behavior of this feature as well as disable it altogether. This tutorial explains how this is done.

Disable Audio

April 20, 2008

Browser: Opera

Many web pages contain sound effects, music, and other types of audio. Occasionally these sounds are played upon page load while others require user interaction, such as clicking on a link, to be heard. You may want to disable audio from playing in web pages altogether. The Opera browser for OS X allows you to do this very easily. This tutorial steps you through the process.

These pages can take a painstakingly long time to load, especially on slower connections such as dial-up. If you can live without the images, the Opera browser for OS X allows you to disable all of them from loading. In most cases this will speed up page load time significantly. Keep in mind, however, that many web pages render incorrectly when their images are removed and as a result some content may become illegible.

April 17, 2008

Browser: Safari

Platform: OS X

The Safari web browser stores a large amount of information as a result of your browsing.
