Steps 5 and 6 of this tutorial describe how to clear Safari's browsing history on the iPhone directly through the browser itself. There is an alternate method to accomplish this task which does not require opening the browser application at all.
First select the Settings icon, normally located towards the top of your iPhone Home Screen.
