Description

The browser.chrome.toolbar_tips Preference in Firefox's about:config interface allows the user to toggle tooltips, also known as rollover text, on and off within the browser.

How to Use browser.chrome.toolbar_tips

The value of browser.chrome.toolbar_tips can be set to either true or false. When set to true, which is the default setting, Firefox will display tooltips containing helpful text whenever the mouse cursor hovers over specific elements. Some of these elements include bookmarks and toolbar buttons as well as certain items within Web pages. When set to false, these tooltips are never displayed.

To modify the value of browser.chrome.toolbar_tips, follow these steps:

  • Open your Firefox browser.
  • Type about:config in your browser's address (or URL) bar.
  • Hit Enter.
  • A list of Firefox Preferences should now be displayed. Locate the entry with a Preference Name value of browser.chrome.toolbar_tips.
  • Double click on this entry. Notice that the Value column is immediately changed to either true or false, depending on what the previous value was. To change it back, simply double click on the entry again.
