Mines for Firefox

The Bottom Line

Mines is a Firefox browser add-on based on the classic Minesweeper, the game made popular as a free inclusion with the Windows operating system. Nowadays there are variations of Minesweeper available for several platforms including Linux and Macintosh. The Mines add-on brings yet another variation of the game, with some very unique features of its own, right to your Firefox browser window.

Pros

  • The gameplay and basic object of the game are very similar to the original Minesweeper.
  • Being able to alternatively play with hexagonal tiles is a great change of pace.
  • Unlike Minesweeper, this add-on allows you to modify the number of mines per tile.
  • Also unique to this version is the ability to pause your current game, which can come in handy.
  • Expert mode can be extremely challenging.

Cons

  • There is no High Score functionality included.

Guide Review - Mines

If you like Minesweeper, this add-on is a must have simply for the fact that it does a nice job cloning the original but also adds some unique features that can greatly enhance your gaming experience. This especially holds true for those of you who have been playing the game for a long time, as using hexagonal tiles as well as specifying multiple mines per tile can add a great new twist to an old favorite. The game is not for everyone, but there really isn't much of a negative side to Mines. I love it and give it the 5-star stamp of approval!
