Froggr for Firefox
The Bottom Line
Froggr is a Firefox add-on which lets you play a clone of the classic arcade game Frogger right in your browser window. Carefully leap through heavy traffic and jump across the backs of floating turtles in an effort to get your frog home safely.
Pros
  • The game does a fairly decent job of mimicking the original version of Frogger.
  • The keyboard controls are very easy to use.
  • Unlike a lot of add-ons there is no presence in the browser's main window, saving valuable space.
  • The game itself can prove to be very enjoyable.
Cons
  • Although the game controls are simple, there are no instructions available within the game itself.
  • There is no way to pause your game.
  • There are no sound effects or music included.
  • The game window cannot be resized without hiding part of the board.
  • After installation, it is not intuitive to look in the Tools menu to launch the game.
Description
  • The Froggr add-on is a variant of the 1981 Konami classic, Frogger, played in a Firefox pop-up window.
  • The game is launched from a link placed in Firefox's Tools menu.
  • The rules as well as the gameplay are very similar to the original version.
  • Keyboard arrow keys are used to control gameplay.
  • Your current score as well as the amount of lives you have remaining (i.e., 2 FROGS) are displayed at the top of the screen.
  • The object of the game is to navigate safely across the board, avoiding obstacles such as speeding cars and alligators.
Guide Review - Froggr
Regarded by many as one of the top video games of all time, Frogger was a fixture in arcades, pizza shops, and eventually living rooms for many years in the 1980s. The sheer excitement of attempting to cross that virtual mine field of speeding death traps without getting splattered or drowning keeps the gameplay somewhat fresh even by today's sky-high standards. The Froggr add-on for Firefox lets you easily experience this right from your browser window. The lack of sound or music is disappointing, as I feel it is an integral component of this type of game. However, if you are simply looking to relive this great game for a while, Froggr is definitely a good addition to your web browser.
