Symantec Adds Browser Defense to Norton AntiVirus

Friday August 31, 2007

The 2008 consumer versions of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security have been released, with the key addition focusing on web browser security. Included in both packages is Browser Defender, which provides zero-day protection against attacks that utilize ActiveX, JavaScript, and VBScript. At the moment only Internet Explorer is covered by this new feature. Firefox support is expected to arrive at an undetermined future date.

Other notable additions to this year's releases include stronger identity safeguarding as well as a home networking feature which monitors the overall security status of other computers running either one of the software packages. Both Norton AntiVirus 2008 and Internet Security 2008 are available at various retail locations as well as through the Symantec online store.
