Play in the Browser Sandbox

Monday February 23, 2009

Xenocode has released the Browser Sandbox, a service which lets you run several Windows browsers directly from the Web. There is only a minor initial installation required and multiple browsers can be launched at the same time, making it a great tool for both developers and testers alike.

Since the service is free and available on the Web, practically any Windows machine with an Internet connection can be instantly transformed into a virtual test lab. An added bonus is the fact that you are running in an isolated environment and therefore not exposed to any security risks that may come with the individual applications. I've been "playing in the sandbox" myself all morning and, aside from a few minor hiccups, things are working as advertised. The following browsers are currently offered: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer ( 6, 7, and 8 ), Opera, and Safari. Unfortunately, the Browser Sandbox does not support Mac or Linux operating systems at this time.
