Critical Vulnerabilities Fixed in Firefox and IE

Wednesday December 17, 2008

In response to the recent discovery of some serious security flaws, Microsoft and Mozilla have both released updates to their respective browsers. Firefox 3.0.5 contains fixes for two cross-site scripting vulnerabilities, a memory corruption issue which could lead to arbitrary code execution, a cross-domain data theft flaw, as well as four defects not considered to be as dangerous as the others.

Microsoft, meanwhile, deviated from their usual update behavior by releasing an emergency patch for Internet Explorer to address a zero-day vulnerability that has been actively exploited over the past couple of weeks. Both Firefox and IE users should update their browsers immediately.
