Microsoft Office in the Cloud

Thursday November 6, 2008

A little over a year ago I reported about Microsoft porting some of its popular Office components to the browser, similar to what Google did with its Apps service. At the time the company was holding registration for potential beta testers. Since then not much news has surfaced about 'Office in the cloud', that is, until this week. Microsoft announced that it will be releasing browser-based versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word as part of the upcoming Office 14 suite.

Due out sometime next year, these browser-based applications will support several browsers including Firefox, Safari, and of course, Internet Explorer. CNET has posted a photo gallery depicting the apps in action.
