Opera Releases Security Update
Opera 9.52 was released yesterday as a recommended security and stability upgrade. In addition to the many minor bug fixes and interface upgrades included with this release, seven security vulnerabilities of varying impact levels were addressed.
Only one of the seven was rated extremely severe. The flaw, which only affects the Windows version, involves the execution of arbitrary code made possible by the browser crashing at startup. The specific type of crash can occur when Opera is registered as a handler for a given protocol and is launched by an external application. The other security vulnerabilities, some of which affect multiple platforms, include one which could allow a malicious site to change framed content on another site as well as one which caused the browser to show incorrect security information on insecure Web pages.
Users of the Opera browser for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux are all encouraged to upgrade to 9.52 immediately. This can be done via the browser's Check for Updates menu item or through Opera's official download site.
