Apple Updates Safari for Windows
The beta version of Safari for the Windows platform has been updated for the fourth time since its release, adding several new features while addressing a group of security issues. Notable additions include spell checking, cookie management, tooltips, and advanced text options. Over a dozen new keyboard shortcuts have been added and the browser's overall stability and performance have been improved upon.
On the security side of things, Beta Update 3.0.4 fixed several critical flaws. Three of the vulnerabilities corrected could lead to cross-site scripting while another could allow for arbitrary code execution if exploited properly. Safari's handling of the status bar could potentially cause a buffer overflow which, if a user visited a maliciously crafted page, could allow an attacker to run their code remotely. In addition to these flaws, an implementation issue in Safari's Tabbed Browsing feature could be exploited to coerce the disclosure of a user's authentication credentials. Apple has addressed all of these issues in 3.0.4, and users are strongly encouraged to upgrade their browsers immediately.
